I’ve since switched to a Epson because a to my eyes it does just as good a job, and b with the Epson I don’t have to cut my 6×9 film into individual frames like the Agfa adapter required. Ressurecting an old thread. The Agfa Arcus II includes a wonderful functionality allowing you to scan your key papers in sharp detail for long-term storage. Yup, drove one for years. Reflective is used for material printed on paper, transparent for slides, and negative for negative film. Is it not on the list for vuescan, but I think it is made by microtech, so it should work.

The choices are 8, 10 or 12; a larger number means more colors and a more realistic image but larger file size. Among the settings that you can adjust are the descreen settings, useful if the original is a newspaper or magazine photo which is actually composed of small dots. I have not tried viewscan, but arvus it does not work, you would have to use older agfa fotolook software not OS X compatable, probably not classic compatable, maybe not OS 9 compatable most common problem is the software is unable to quit I would be concerned about it’s compatibility with a G4, since fotolook may not run properly in OS 9. If you are scanning slides or negatives, the transparency adapter of the Arcus II is built in.
It should be placed flat on the glass with the word AGFA toward the back of the scanner. The ribbon cable was some out outrageous amount of money it was cheaper to by a used Umax Mirage II than the replace the cable on the Arcus The Arcus makes good reflective scans, the transparency scans were only useful to us as FPO “for position only” – not good enough for output The technology is pretty old now, better scanners can be had new aga only a few hundred dollars.
