Perhaps I failed to install something crucial for running the vesa driver. I would suggest either manually specifying those values for the monitor you can often find them from the monitor’s manualor else if you’re running Feisty or Gutsy, try commenting them out so xorg can try autodetecting them. On my laptop that doesn’t support X vesa but does work with unichrome or openchrome’s via, had garbage video with ubuntu.
